Nana Patekar cremated with full state honours in Pune

Published 8 October 2026

Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his Donje farmhouse near Pune on Thursday, October 8, after the veteran actor died in Goa earlier that day. His son, Malhar Patekar, lit the pyre, and a three-gun salute was given, according to reports from the ceremony. Patekar’s remains were brought from Goa to Pune, where family members, film-industry colleagues, political leaders and local residents gathered to pay their respects. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar were among those reported at the farewell. The Maharashtra government had decided to grant full state honours in recognition of Patekar’s contributions to theatre and cinema. Patekar was 75, according to most reports. One account gave his age as 76. He died at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, and was taken to Manipal Hospital. A police record cited in reporting says he was brought to the hospital dead from his residence. Goa police registered an unnatural-death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and an inquiry is underway. Reports differ over whether cardiac arrest has been established as the cause of death or was suspected.
