Namibia, South Africa Open T20 Triseries in Windhoek

Namibia and South Africa will open a T20 triseries tournament on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek, marking the start of a competition designed to strengthen international cricket on the continent. The hosts, led by experienced all-rounder Gerhard Erasmus, will face a South African side captained by left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin in the first match, scheduled for a 5:30 PM IST start. The tournament features a double round-robin format, with each team playing the others twice. The top two sides will advance to the final on September 6. Zimbabwe is the third participant, using the series as preparation for hosting the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027. The triseries is described as the foundation for the Africa Cup in 2027, a broader initiative to create more regular international competition among African nations. South Africa has sent a developmental squad for the event, headlined by young talents such as batter Dewald Brevis and fast bowler Kwena Maphaka. The team is in a transitional phase, with only two players in the squad having played more than 20 T20 internationals.
