Musk outlines plan to add 660,000 chips at Colossus 2

Elon Musk said xAI plans to add up to 660,000 Nvidia GB300 chips to its Colossus 2 data center in phases through late December, a schedule that would raise the facility’s reported chip total from 550,000 to 1.21 million if every batch is deployed. The final batch remains conditional, and the planned additions have not been independently confirmed as operational. In a post on X, Musk said Colossus 2, in the Memphis area, currently operates with 110,000 GB200 chips and 440,000 GB300 chips. He said an additional 220,000 GB300 chips were expected to become operational in the near term, with another 220,000 planned for November. A further 220,000 could arrive by late December if scheduling permits, according to his statement. The figures and timetable stem from Musk’s post.
