Musk Companies Drop Apple Antitrust Claims, Continue OpenAI Case

Elon Musk's companies, X Corp and xAI, have voluntarily dismissed their federal antitrust claims against Apple, ending a yearlong legal battle in Texas. The companies filed a motion on September 14, 2026, to dismiss the lawsuit they brought against Apple in August 2025. The filing did not disclose the reasons for the dismissal or indicate whether a settlement was reached. The original lawsuit accused Apple of violating antitrust law by exclusively integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence features across iPhones and other devices. The complaint argued this arrangement gave ChatGPT an unfair structural advantage over competitors, including Musk's Grok chatbot, and sought billions in damages. While the claims against Apple have been dropped, X Corp and xAI stated they will continue pursuing their antitrust claims against OpenAI, which remains a defendant in the same lawsuit. The companies alleged OpenAI used anticompetitive conduct to maintain a monopoly in the chatbot market. Apple and OpenAI had previously denied the allegations, arguing their partnership was never exclusive.
