Musk Announces Boring Company Hyperloop Tunnel Plan for Austin-San Antonio

Elon Musk announced on September 20, 2026, that The Boring Company is developing a "simple, precursor Hyperloop tunnel" between Austin and San Antonio, Texas, with a target speed of 200 mph. The project aims to reduce the current drive time, which can reach 2.5 hours due to traffic, to a consistent 30 minutes. Musk shared the plan in a post on the social media platform X, stating the tunnel would connect the two cities, which are approximately 80 miles apart by road. The Boring Company's official account responded, clarifying the system would be express with no intermediate stops, allowing travel from an Austin parking lot to a San Antonio restaurant in 30 minutes, provided both locations have Loop stations.
