Murmu Presents 72nd National Film Awards in Gujarat

President Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards for 2024 at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat's Narmada district on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, marking the first time the ceremony has been held outside Delhi. Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country's highest film honour, for his contribution to Indian cinema. Hindi feature film Article 370, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, won Best Feature Film. Yami Gautam received Best Actress in a Leading Role for the same film, while Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared Best Actor in a Leading Role honours for Bramayugam and Chandu Champion respectively. Mammootty's win was his fourth National Film Award. Randeep Hooda took the Best Debut Film of a Director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, and Rajkumar Periasamy received Best Direction for the Tamil film Amaran. Bhangaar won Best Non-Feature Film. Article 370 received three awards in total, including Best Music Direction for Shashwat Sachdev. The ceremony was held in a dome erected against the backdrop of the 182-metre Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
