Murder probe after man shot in Sheffield woods
A murder investigation is underway after the body of a man was discovered with a gunshot wound in Sheffield woodland. Ryan Kettlewell, 38, was found in Ecclesall Woods on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. A forensic postmortem examination confirmed that Kettlewell died as a result of a gunshot wound. Following the discovery of his body at approximately 6:46 PM on September 2, South Yorkshire Police launched a murder investigation. Detectives and officers have been working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. Two individuals, a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, were arrested on September 3, 2026, on suspicion of murder. They have since been released on police bail as inquiries continue. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, the senior investigating officer for the case, stated that the force is committed to finding answers regarding how Ryan Kettlewell lost his life.
