Murder investigation after fatal Grangetown house fire

Two people have died and a woman is in critical condition following a house fire in Grangetown, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Cleveland Police have launched a murder investigation into the blaze, which occurred on Birchington Avenue in the early hours of the morning. Emergency services were called to the property at approximately 5:20 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found two people dead at the scene. A woman was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where she remains in critical condition. Three other individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving treatment in hospital.
