Moonshot AI files for $3 billion Hong Kong IPO

Published 5 September 2026

Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in Hong Kong, aiming to raise approximately $3 billion. The Beijing-based company, known for its Kimi large language model, is reportedly valued at $50 billion in an ongoing funding round, according to multiple reports on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The proposed listing would mark a significant step for Moonshot AI as it seeks public market capital to fund its rapid expansion and compete in the burgeoning AI sector. The timing of the offering is subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions, with some reports suggesting a listing could occur within six months or by the first quarter of 2027. Moonshot AI's latest model, Kimi K3, released in July 2026, has garnered attention for its scale, featuring 2.8 trillion parameters and described as the world's largest openweight model. The company has stated that strong demand for Kimi K3 has strained its computing capacity. This demand has reportedly pushed Moonshot AI's annual recurring revenue toward $300 million. The company, founded in 2023 by AI researcher Yang Zhilin, has experienced a rapid ascent.
