Monty Don to leave Gardeners' World after 23 years

Monty Don, the longest-serving Head Gardener in the history of the BBC's Gardeners' World, has announced he will step down from the program at the end of the current series. The beloved horticulturist, who is 71, confirmed the news on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, stating that after 23 years at the helm, it is time for a change. Don joined Gardeners' World as a presenter in 2003, taking over from Alan Titchmarsh. He initially filmed episodes at Berryfields in Stratford-upon-Avon. Following a three-year break from presenting due to illness, he returned to screens in 2011, and the show subsequently moved to his own garden, Longmeadow, in Herefordshire.
