MoneyGram launches Visa stablecoin debit card in Colombia

Published 10 September 2026

MoneyGram has launched a Visa-branded stablecoin debit card, marking the remittance company's most direct step yet toward making digital dollar tokens spendable in everyday commerce. The card debuted on September 10, 2026, initially as a virtual card available in Colombia through the MoneyGram app, where it can be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The company said it plans to introduce a physical card and expand to additional markets later this year. At launch, the card supports USDC, the dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle. Users load USDC into their MoneyGram app wallet and can spend it at any merchant that accepts Visa, with the stablecoin converted to the local fiat currency in real time at the point of sale. Cardholders can also visit any of MoneyGram's more than 6,000 physical locations across Colombia to convert stablecoin holdings into cash, linking the digital product to the company's longstanding agent network. Colombia was a deliberate choice. MoneyGram launched a USDC-backed mobile app there in September 2025, allowing users to store and transfer dollar-pegged value without a traditional bank account.
