The charges stem from an incident on November 3, 2025, in Vosloorus, where the state alleges he staged an assassination attempt on himself by firing 11 rounds at his own vehicle. During Tuesday's proceedings, Mogotsi took the stand to address the state's claim that he had plotted to escape by disguising himself as a correctional services official. He denied the allegation, explaining that the consequences of being caught attempting to escape would be too severe.
