Modi warns geopolitical tensions threaten global stability at BRICS summit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned on Sunday that rising geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and climate crises are increasingly threatening global stability, calling for enhanced cooperation among developing nations. Addressing the BRICS summit in New Delhi on its second day, Modi stated that conflicts and tensions are having a negative impact on ordinary people worldwide. Modi, speaking alongside leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasized that no crisis remains confined to a single region in today's interconnected world. He specifically cautioned that the weaponization of technology and critical minerals could hinder global development and shared prosperity. The BRICS bloc, which now includes 11 members representing about half the world's population, announced a significant agreement during the summit. Modi revealed that the group has established an integrated early warning system for infectious diseases, aimed at boosting preparedness and response to future outbreaks. He noted that guidelines for an early warning data integration mechanism have been formulated.
