Missile Near Aden Runway Diverts Cairo Flight

Published 6 October 2026

A missile landed near the runway at Aden International Airport shortly before a Cairo flight was due to arrive, prompting authorities to divert the aircraft to Jeddah and move two other planes away from the runway, Yemen’s Transport Ministry said Wednesday. The incident came as the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting missiles near Riyadh and Khamis Mushait, while Houthi claims of attacks on Saudi airports and other sites remained unconfirmed by Saudi authorities. The Transport Ministry said the precautionary measures were taken because of the missile and concerns about further strikes. Aden security authorities separately reported that two missiles had targeted the airport and said there were no casualties. Accounts did not establish how many missiles reached the airport, whether the near-runway impact caused damage, or the full effect on operations. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile north of Riyadh. It also reported an interception near Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The reports did not establish whether the Khamis Mushait interception was connected to the Houthis’ account of an attack there.
