Mir Out of Austrian MotoGP, Nakagami to Replace

Joan Mir, the 2020 MotoGP world champion, will miss this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring due to an undiagnosed medical condition. Honda HRC announced that the Spanish rider will not compete after medical tests revealed abnormal blood parameters, prompting his team to advise rest and further investigation. Mir experienced symptoms of fatigue and severe lack of energy during the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano last weekend, where he retired from the race on Sunday. Following the event, he traveled to Barcelona for comprehensive medical examinations. According to Honda, these tests showed "altered parameters" in his bloodwork, but no specific diagnosis has been made. Given the ongoing symptoms and the absence of a clear diagnosis, Mir's medical team recommended he withdraw from the Austrian GP to focus on recovery and undergo additional tests. As a result, Honda has called up test rider Takaaki Nakagami to replace Mir on the factory Honda RC213V. Nakagami, who recently participated in a test session at Mugello, will step in for the Spielberg weekend. This will be his first MotoGP race appearance of the 2026 season.
