Minnesota Governor Bans New Nonferrous Mining in Boundary Waters Watershed

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed an executive order on August 18, 2026, that imposes immediate restrictions on new nonferrous metal mining in the Rainy River Headwaters Watershed, which contains the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
