Millroy rescued from burning car at China GT

British racing driver Ollie Millroy has credited Dutch competitor Loek Hartog with saving his life after a dramatic crash during the China GT race at the Shanghai International Circuit on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The incident, which occurred approximately 20 minutes into the first race of the championship, saw Millroy's Ferrari burst into flames after being struck in a multi-car collision. With no safety marshals immediately available, Hartog stopped his own vehicle and pulled Millroy from the burning wreckage, an act both drivers have described as heroic. The crash unfolded on the back straight when the No. 33 BMW of Neil Verhagen lost control after touching the grass while battling with the No. 37 Ferrari of David Chen. The resulting collision sent Millroy's AAI Motorsports Ferrari spinning and into flames. The race was red-flagged, but according to multiple accounts, no marshals or fire crews were on the scene to respond. Hartog, who was several positions behind, saw the fireball and stopped without hesitation. He obtained a fire extinguisher from a nearby official, doused the flames, and then pulled Millroy from the opposite side of the wreck.
