Miller trades chicken company stake for No. 40

Published 5 September 2026

Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Von Miller has secured the No. 40 jersey for the upcoming season after reaching an agreement with teammate Hunter Luepke. The decision was finalized on Thursday, September 3, 2026, resolving a competition for the number that Luepke, a fullback, had worn since joining the team in 2023. Miller, who previously wore No. 40 during his high school, college, and stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills, acquired the number by giving Luepke an ownership stake in his chicken company, Greener Pastures Chicken. Luepke will now switch to jersey No. 30. "You got to give Hunter a great shout out," Miller said. "It went down to the final hour, but we were able to get it done. I don't want to get into the details of it, but I'm happy to say he's my business partner. He's a part owner of Greener Pastures Chicken." Greener Pastures Chicken is a USDA-certified organic poultry processing facility. Miller, who majored in poultry science at Texas A&M, noted that Luepke was a good fit for the business venture. Other investors in the company include current and former NFL players Patrick Mahomes, Drew Brees, and Nick Foles.
