Microsoft redesigns Copilot around work, coding and AI agents

Microsoft announced a redesigned Copilot app on September 25 that brings workplace chat, Office tools, natural-language coding and persistent AI agents into one interface, as the company seeks to make the assistant more useful to business customers. The app is organized into three sections: Home, Code and Autopilot. Home combines Copilot Chat and Cowork, Microsoft’s existing agent for handling larger tasks. Word, Excel and PowerPoint are integrated so users can create and edit files without leaving Copilot, while colleagues can work on the same documents through familiar Office apps. Microsoft describes Home as the app’s central workspace for organizing work and using its AI tools. The Code section lets users describe software, dashboards, trackers or automations in ordinary language. Microsoft says the feature uses technology also found in GitHub Copilot and runs in a sandboxed environment. It can be hosted within a company’s Microsoft 365 tenant, according to the company. Autopilot, previously called Scout, is designed to continue working on assigned tasks when a user is away.
