Mets Name Andy Green Full-Time Manager on Three-Year Deal

The New York Mets named interim manager Andy Green as their full-time manager on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, handing him a three-year contract and ending any speculation that the club would pursue Carlos Beltran or another candidate for the role. The announcement came before the Mets opened a three-game series against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. The club chose not to conduct a managerial search this offseason, opting instead to remove the interim label from Green, who had been serving in the role since Carlos Mendoza was fired in late June with New York sitting at 34-47. Green's promotion represented a reversal of the organization's stated plan. When he took over, Green said he was not particularly interested in managing beyond this season, and Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns said Green would return to a front-office role after the season, a stance Stearns maintained in the months that followed. The Mets have played better baseball under Green's leadership. Two accounts put the club's record under him at 37-38, while another reported 38-39, including a 24-21 mark since August 1.
