Meta's Muse AI Agent Tops App Store with Mac Launch
Meta's Muse AI agent app has reached the top of the US App Store free chart, following the release of a native Mac version that allows the artificial intelligence to interact directly with files and applications on users' computers. The Mac app, launched on September 17, 2026, marks a significant expansion for Muse, which initially debuted in early September as a personal AI agent designed to execute multistep tasks rather than simply answer questions. Unlike conventional chatbots, Muse is built to perform actions on behalf of users, such as booking travel, managing calendars, and organizing digital information across different apps. The Mac version enables the AI to work with data stored locally on a computer, including emails, messages, and documents, by coordinating information across applications like Mail, Calendar, and Messages. Meta describes this as the first version of Muse that can complete tasks directly on a user's computer. To address privacy concerns, Meta has implemented opt-in permissions for computer access and requires user approval for sensitive actions like deleting files or sending messages.
