Meta Readies Camera-Free Luna Smart Glasses Amid Privacy Concerns

Meta is reportedly preparing to launch a new version of its smart glasses that removes the integrated camera, a move aimed at addressing persistent privacy concerns surrounding its current models. The device, internally codenamed Luna, is expected to be unveiled at the company's annual Connect developer conference on September 23 and 24, 2026, with shipments potentially beginning in October. According to reports, the Luna glasses will feature six microphones and speakers, allowing users to interact with Meta's AI chatbot and its new consumer-focused AI agent, Muse. A button on the side will provide quick access to Meta AI. The removal of the camera has reportedly enabled a slimmer design, making the glasses resemble ordinary eyewear more closely. The model is said to be planned for release in two styles: Clubmaster and Burbank. The development comes as Meta's existing camera-equipped smart glasses have faced significant backlash over privacy issues. Critics have labeled the devices "offender glasses," citing instances where individuals have used them to surreptitiously record people, sometimes for the purpose of online harassment.
