Merz warns AfD win in Saxony-Anhalt would harm economy
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned on Sunday that a victory for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the upcoming state election in Saxony-Anhalt would cause considerable economic damage and deter international investment. The election, scheduled for September 6, could result in the first state government led by the far right since World War II. In an interview with public broadcaster ARD, Merz stated he could not imagine international investors attending a groundbreaking ceremony with an AfD state premier to establish new businesses.
