Mbappe leaves Nike for Swiss brand On in football expansion deal
Kylian Mbappé has ended his 20-year partnership with Nike to join Swiss sportswear brand On, marking the company's entry into the football market. The deal, announced on September 18, 2026, includes both cash and equity components, though financial terms were not disclosed. Mbappé will serve as a global ambassador and work directly with On's product teams to develop future football footwear and apparel. On also appointed French football legend Thierry Henry as its Director of Football. Henry had been working with the company behind the scenes since late 2025 on its football expansion. The company plans to launch its first football boots in 2027, adapting its LightSpray robotic manufacturing technology for the sport. The partnership represents a significant move for On, which was founded in 2010 and is best known for running shoes. The company has also built a presence in tennis through its association with Roger Federer, who became a shareholder in 2019. Mbappé's signing gives On immediate visibility as it enters the competitive football market dominated by Nike, Adidas, and Puma. For Nike, the departure removes one of its most prominent football ambassadors.
