MARA Holdings Buys 1,292 Bitcoin for $98.6M, Resuming Accumulation
MARA Holdings, a publicly traded Bitcoin mining company, has purchased 1,292 Bitcoin for approximately $98.64 million, marking a return to accumulation after months of selling digital assets. The transaction, executed through the institutional prime broker FalconX, was identified via onchain analytics from Lookonchain on September 16, 2026. The purchase was made at an average price of about $76,347 per Bitcoin. The move signals a shift in MARA's treasury strategy. Earlier in 2026, the company sold more than 20,000 Bitcoin, raising roughly $1.5 billion. Those proceeds were used to reduce debt, including repurchasing convertible bonds, and to fund the expansion of its artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure. The latest acquisition brings MARA's total Bitcoin holdings to 35,577 BTC, which includes assets held in custody with Fidelity and in operating wallets. The purchase coincided with a turbulent period for cryptocurrency markets. On the same day, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, a key piece of crypto market-structure legislation, in a narrow procedural vote.
