ManningCast Viewership Slumps in Week 1 Debut
The ManningCast, ESPN's alternative Monday Night Football broadcast featuring former NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, recorded 705,000 viewers for its Week 1 presentation of the Kansas City Chiefs versus Denver Broncos game, according to reports. In contrast, the main Monday Night Football broadcast on ESPN and ABC averaged 23.2 million viewers, securing the network's highest Week 1 audience in history. This significant gap underscores the challenges facing the ManningCast as it continues into its sixth season. Launched in 2021, the show initially captivated audiences with its informal style, allowing the Manning brothers to provide in-depth analysis and engage in lighthearted banter. Over time, however, the format has incorporated more celebrity interviews and guest appearances, which some observers note may have shifted focus away from the football insights that originally set it apart. The latest viewership figures arrive amid growing competition. ESPN has announced plans to introduce a Pat McAfee alternate broadcast on ESPN2 during weeks when the ManningCast is not scheduled.
