Man Posing as 49ers Player Arrested in $1.3 Million Fraud Scheme

Daejon Love, a 35-year-old man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player to defraud women, was arrested on August 24, 2026, alongside his alleged accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, at Boise Airport in Idaho. Federal prosecutors allege the pair ran a romance and investment scheme that defrauded at least 26 women of approximately $1.3 million. The arrest followed an investigation into a scheme that began in February 2022, with Love allegedly using multiple false identities and fabricated financial information to gain victims' trust. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Love and Chan are charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Prosecutors state that Love met most victims through dating apps and social media, presenting himself as either a wealthy real estate investor or a player for the San Francisco 49ers. He allegedly used pseudonyms including Jon Love, Avril Lyto Love, and Jordan Love. Chan, 18, reportedly posed as Love's financial adviser to further legitimize the scheme. The pair allegedly created fictitious investments and used fake bank and investment accounts to convince victims to send money.
