Man kills teacher, self in Uttar Pradesh school shooting

A man shot and killed a teacher inside a school in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday before fatally shooting himself, according to police. The incident occurred at Children's Academy School, a private institution catering to students up to Class V, around 11:30 a.m. as students were leaving and guardians waited outside. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Nishat Fatima, a teacher at the school for about a year. The shooter was identified as 28-year-old Saud Ansari, a resident of the city's Naurangabad area who ran a furniture shop. Police stated the two knew each other and suspect a failed romantic relationship as the motive. According to police, Ansari entered the school premises along with guardians who had come to pick up their children. He was carrying a pistol concealed in a bag. When Fatima saw him, she took him to an upper floor where no other teachers or students were present. A school staff member observed them going upstairs and followed. Police said the two spoke for a few minutes in a corridor before Ansari pulled out the weapon and shot Fatima. He then turned the gun on himself. Both were declared dead at the scene.
