Man dies after ejection from Six Flags coaster
Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, a 42-year-old Atlanta man, died after being ejected from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, and the company temporarily closed nine similar rides across six parks while investigations continue. Cobb County police said preliminary interviews with witnesses and park employees indicate Kariem struck other patrons before falling beneath the ride. Police have not announced what caused him to be ejected or whether an equipment, maintenance or operational issue contributed. The incident occurred Monday, October 12, at the park near Atlanta. Police identified Kariem on Tuesday. The school community where he worked described him as a longtime educator and information technology manager at Wesley International Academy. Four other people were reportedly injured, but authorities have not publicly disclosed their conditions. Riders were evacuated after the coaster stopped. The available information does not establish whether its stop was connected to the fatal incident. Six Flags said the closures were temporary and precautionary. The affected rides are at six parks in the United States and Canada. The company has not provided a reopening timeline.
