Man arrested for arson after setting himself on fire in NYC building lobby

Police arrested a 63-year-old Brooklyn man on Saturday after he set himself on fire in the lobby of a Lower Manhattan office building that houses Google and the NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau. John Butch was charged with arson, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment while hospitalized for severe burns sustained in the incident, which occurred Friday afternoon. The event unfolded at approximately 3 p.m. on August 28 inside the building at 315 Hudson Street. According to police, Butch entered the lobby wearing a backpack and, after briefly leaving, returned about an hour later when his body became engulfed in flames.
