Man and Woman Killed After Being Struck by Subway Train in Manhattan

A 24-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were killed early Sunday after being struck by a subway train while sitting on the tracks in Lower Manhattan, according to police and multiple reports. The incident occurred near the Spring Street station at approximately 3:15 a.m. on September 13, when a southbound No. 4 train hit the pair. Video footage of the incident, which circulated widely online, shows the two individuals sitting on the rails and facing the oncoming train moments before impact. The train operator attempted to apply emergency brakes but was unable to stop in time, according to reports citing law enforcement sources. First responders arrived at the scene to find the pair unresponsive. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The station was closed following the incident, and one of the victims' bodies was later seen covered on the platform. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending family notification. The man was from Sayreville, New Jersey, and the woman was from Dayton, New York, according to sources familiar with the investigation. There is no indication that either person was pushed or accidentally fell onto the tracks.
