Mahanagar Gas Hikes CNG Price by Rs 2 in Mumbai

Mahanagar Gas Limited announced a price increase for compressed natural gas and domestic piped natural gas in Mumbai, effective from midnight on September 1, 2026. The hike of Rs 2 per kilogram for CNG and Re 1 per standard cubic meter for PNG follows a similar move by Indraprastha Gas Limited in the Delhi-National Capital Region days earlier, with both companies citing soaring international liquefied natural gas prices as the primary driver. With the latest revision, CNG in Mumbai and adjoining areas will now cost Rs 88 per kilogram. The company stated that the increase is necessary to partially offset a significant rise in input gas costs, a large portion of which is met through imported spot LNG. MGL noted there is substantial demand for CNG, and the price adjustment aims to ensure continued and sustained supply to its network, which serves approximately 13 lakh vehicles across parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The same increase in input costs also led to the Rs 1 per SCM hike for the company's 30 lakh domestic PNG consumers. This announcement comes shortly after Indraprastha Gas Limited implemented a Rs 3.
