Madrid's Madring Circuit Debuts for 2026 Spanish Grand Prix

The 2026 Spanish Grand Prix is set to debut a new circuit, the Madring in Madrid, on September 13, replacing Barcelona as the host venue for the Spanish round of the Formula 1 season. The 5.416-kilometer track, designed by Carsten Tilke, features 22 corners and a hybrid layout integrating permanent and temporary sections near the IFEMA Exhibition Centre. A notable element is "La Monumental," a long, steeply banked left-hand corner inspired by Spanish bullrings, boasting a maximum banking gradient of 24 degrees. Significant concerns surround the Madring's debut, stemming from a recent Formula 3 test where the circuit produced 19 red flags, 11 of which were attributed to barrier contact. This has led to widespread anticipation of potential chaos, with drivers and team principals citing low grip levels and the proximity of walls to the track, drawing comparisons to circuits like Jeddah and Baku. The FIA has confirmed two "Straight Mode" zones for active aerodynamics: one on the start-finish straight and another immediately after Turn 3, designed to aid overtaking.
