Lucas Museum Celebrates Star-Studded Opening Night in Los Angeles

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art held a star-studded opening night celebration on Saturday, September 20, 2026, ahead of its public debut on September 22. The event in Los Angeles was attended by a wide array of celebrities, filmmakers, and political figures, marking the culmination of a 17-year effort by founders George Lucas and Mellody Hobson. The billion-dollar museum, located in Exposition Park, is a five-story, 300,000-square-foot building designed by architect Ma Yansong. Its collection includes over 40,000 works spanning narrative art forms, with inaugural exhibitions featuring Star Wars artifacts, works by Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, and other artists. The opening night celebration began with a cocktail reception and featured a performance by the Black Eyed Peas, along with a drone show narrated by Oprah Winfrey and Samuel L. Jackson. During the ceremony, founders Lucas and Hobson described the museum's creation as a challenging 17-year journey. Hobson noted the difficulty of the process, stating, "We did not realize how hard it would be to give the city a museum.
