Low-pressure system brings heavy rain to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh

A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has triggered heavy rainfall across parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, prompting weather alerts and government directives in both states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the system, which formed off the Odisha-Andhra coast, is expected to move west-northwest across the region. In Odisha, the rainfall has been significant, with the IMD recording very heavy rain at six stations and heavy rain at 23 other locations. The highest rainfall of 16 cm was recorded at Golamunda in Kalahandi district. The IMD issued an orange alert for Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, and a yellow alert for Baleshwar. Squally winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, were forecast along the coast, and fishermen were advised against venturing into the sea. The Andhra Pradesh government also responded to the weather system. Home and Disaster Management Minister Vangalapudi Anitha directed officials to set up control rooms immediately to ensure no loss of life or property.
