During the match, referee Charlie Corstorphine stepped in after the persistent booing began to affect both competitors. Littler stated that Aspinall had expressed his frustration to the official, saying the noise was "doing his head in." Littler acknowledged the situation but said he had to focus on his performance. "I think obviously I'm not one to say anything. Obviously Nathan said it because it was doing his head in," Littler said in a post-match interview. "In his head he was like, they're not whistling me, but they're whistling Luke. And that's when he said to Charlie, 'It's doing my head in now.' But yeah, I've just got to get on with it. I know what to expect every time." The incident echoes a previous situation where Littler boycotted events in Germany.
