Letby defence submits new evidence as two experts quit team

Lucy Letby's legal team has submitted a dossier of new medical evidence to the UK's Criminal Cases Review Commission, arguing that no murders occurred in the case that led to her conviction. The submission comes as two experts who previously supported her defence have withdrawn, citing concerns about the scientific credibility of some arguments. The evidence, compiled by an international panel convened by Canadian neonatologist Dr. Shoo Lee, concludes there was no medical proof of deliberate harm in the 17 baby cases. The panel attributed the deaths and injuries to natural causes or substandard medical care. Dr. Lee, whose 1989 research on air embolisms was used by the prosecution at trial, now believes his work was misinterpreted. Letby is serving 15 whole-life orders for the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. Her previous appeals have been unsuccessful, and this new evidence represents a potential path for a review of her convictions. However, the defence effort has faced internal dissent. Two experts, Helen Shannon and Geoff Chase, withdrew from the team on Monday.
