Leeds United vs Newcastle United Premier League Preview

Published 14 September 2026

Leeds United host Newcastle United at Elland Road on Monday, September 14, 2026, in a Premier League fixture with significant early-season implications. Both teams enter the match unbeaten and level on five points, with identical records of one win and two draws from their opening three league games. A victory for either side could lift them into the top three of the table. Leeds manager Daniel Farke has made eight changes to his starting lineup from the team that suffered a 6-3 defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup last Wednesday. James Trafford returns in goal, while Nico Elvedi replaces Jaka Bijol in central defense. Captain Ethan Ampadu starts on his 26th birthday alongside midfielders Ao Tanaka and Anton Stach. Up front, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor lead the attack. The home side will be without defender Joe Rodon, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in the 1-1 draw at Brighton on September 5. Midfielder Ilia Gruev is also absent with a knee problem. Leeds have conceded just two goals in their three Premier League matches this season. Newcastle, managed by Matthias Jaissle, remain unbeaten in all competitions since the German took charge last month.
