Leclerc considered other options before Ferrari extension

Charles Leclerc has revealed he considered other opportunities before signing a contract extension with Ferrari, a deal announced in June that secures his future with the team through at least the 2028 season. The Monégasque driver, who is on track to become Ferrari's all-time highest race starter next season, confirmed that his manager, Nicolas Todt, explored alternatives on his behalf, though Leclerc never held personal talks with other teams. Leclerc, 28, made the comments on the Beyond the Grid podcast, explaining that Todt provided him with a full picture of the driver market. "There were other opportunities, but at the end of the day, we sat down with Ferrari and we made it happen quite quickly," Leclerc said. He cited his long-standing relationship with team principal Fred Vasseur as a key factor in his decision to remain with the Scuderia. "Fred is a big reason why I have signed again as well. I believe in Fred 200 per cent," Leclerc added, noting their bond extends beyond a professional relationship. Leclerc's commitment comes as Ferrari prepares for its home race, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where the team will introduce its second power unit upgrade of the season.
