LeBron James' Polymarket deal dwarfs NBA salary, raising cap questions
LeBron James has secured a $15 million annual endorsement deal with the prediction market platform Polymarket, a figure that significantly exceeds his NBA salary with the Philadelphia 76ers. The agreement, reported by multiple outlets, is for endorsement work only and does not involve an investment stake in the company. James's promotional focus is expected to be on football rather than basketball. The deal's value dwarfs James's on-court earnings. He signed a two-year, $8 million veteran minimum contract with the 76ers in late July, making $3.9 million for the 2026-27 season. The Polymarket partnership, announced earlier this month, follows the expiration of a previous endorsement deal with DraftKings over the summer. The timing of the agreement has drawn scrutiny and speculation. James announced his decision to join the 76ers on July 24. At that time, Polymarket was inaccessible in Minnesota due to a state law that made it a felony for prediction market companies to operate or advertise there. A federal judge issued an injunction on July 27, temporarily halting the ban, three days after James's announcement.
