Leaked images reveal Meta's slim Project Phoenix mixed reality headset

Leaked images from Meta's Horizon OS software have revealed the design of the company's upcoming mixed reality headset, codenamed Project Phoenix. The images, first discovered by UploadVR in a firmware package for prescription lenses, show a slim, glasses-style device that represents a significant departure from Meta's bulkier Quest headsets. The leaked visuals depict a lightweight frame with nose pads and side-mounted sensors, connected by a cable to an external puck. This tethered component is expected to house the battery and possibly some processing power, a design choice that allows the headset itself to remain thin and light. One report indicates the headset unit weighs under 110 grams, making it substantially lighter than the Quest 3, which weighs approximately 515 grams. The discovery was made within a Horizon OS Prescription Lens firmware package, which has since been removed. The images illustrate how prescription lenses can be fitted into the device and include a QR code for configuration. While the front of the headset is not visible in the leaked files, the design suggests it will use cameras for passthrough mixed reality rather than transparent lenses.
