Lavrov Accuses NATO of Militarizing Arctic, Threatening Russia

Lavrov's remarks were detailed in an interview published on August 30 and an article released the following day. He specifically cited NATO's Arctic Sentry operation, launched in February 2026, as a primary driver of regional militarization. According to Lavrov, the alliance is conducting large-scale military exercises involving non-regional countries and introducing new command-and-control elements. He argued this deliberate effort fosters military mistrust and is accompanied by Western sanctions targeting entities from the "Global Majority" involved in Arctic projects.
