Labour Party chieftain sues WAEC, UNN, NYSC over Obi's credentials

A chieftain of Nigeria's Labour Party has filed three separate lawsuits against the West African Examinations Council, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the National Youth Service Corps, seeking court orders to compel the release of official records related to the academic and service certificates of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress. The suits, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, were initiated by Abayomi Arabambi under the Freedom of Information Act, 2011. Arabambi, a former factional spokesperson for the Labour Party, alleges that the institutions either refused or failed to respond to his formal requests for information concerning certificates he believes were issued to Obi. Court documents show the suit against WAEC was filed on September 1, 2026, seeking a Certified True Copy of WAEC Certificate No. SC042560, issued to Obi Gregory Onwubuase in June 1978. The action against the NYSC, also filed on September 1, seeks records related to NYSC Certificate No. 203495, stated to have been issued to Obi, Gregory PeterOnwubuase Mr. on May 1, 1986.
