Kyrgios accepts one-month ban for cocaine test

Tennis player Nick Kyrgios has accepted a one-month suspension following a positive test for cocaine, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced on September 4, 2026. The Australian, 31, provided a sample in June 2026 at a tournament in Mallorca, Spain, which tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. The substance is prohibited in competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). According to the ITIA, Kyrgios informed investigators that he had socially used cocaine during a night out prior to his scheduled matches in Mallorca. Following an investigation and consultation with a WADA-accredited laboratory expert, the ITIA accepted that the use occurred outside of competition and was unrelated to sports performance. Kyrgios had faced a potential three-month ban, but this was reduced to one month after he agreed to enter a Substance of Abuse treatment program approved by the ITIA. He was provisionally suspended from competition starting August 4, 2026. The ITIA stated that Kyrgios's ban concluded at 23:59 on September 3, 2026, provided he successfully completes the required treatment program.
