Kyiv faces 5th day of drone attacks as strikes disrupt supplies, kill dozens

Published 31 August 2026

Russian forces have relentlessly attacked Kyiv and surrounding cities for a fifth consecutive day, deploying hundreds of jet-powered drones that have overwhelmed air defenses, disrupted daily life, and left supermarket shelves bare ahead of the new school year. The sustained aerial campaign, which began on August 27, has killed at least 38 people in the Kyiv region alone and injured dozens more across the country. The deadliest single incident occurred on August 28 in Myla, west of Kyiv, where a Russian strike hit a Ukrainian military depot storing ammunition and explosives. The resulting explosion and secondary blasts killed 38 people, injured 20, and left four missing.
