Kogi Parties Sign Peace Accord for 2027 Elections

Nineteen political parties in Kogi State have signed a peace accord committing to a violence-free electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections. The agreement was reached during a stakeholder meeting organized by the Kogi State Police Command and the InterConsultative Committee on Electoral Security (ICCES). The gathering, held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the police command headquarters in Lokoja, also involved representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies. The parties pledged to conduct their campaigns and political activities strictly in accordance with the law, focusing on policies and issues rather than resorting to violence, intimidation, hate speech, or ethnic and religious division. Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Nazir Bello Kankarofi, warned political actors that security agencies would not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice. He emphasized that violations of electoral laws would face strict legal consequences, stating that operations would be intensified to prevent electoral crimes.
