Kirstie Allsopp airlifted to hospital after leg break in Devon fall

Published 3 September 2026

TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery after breaking her leg in a fall on a coastal path in Devon during her birthday celebrations. The incident occurred on August 31, 2026, near her holiday home, Meadowgate, in Welcombe Mouth. Allsopp, who turned 55 on August 31, shared details of the accident on Instagram. She explained that the family had a long-standing tradition of celebrating her birthday at Meadowgate, which included a picnic and swim at Welcombe Mouth beach. While walking back to the house along the steep path, she slipped on a muddy patch. Her 18-year-old son, Oscar, ran to get help, triggering a multi-agency emergency response. Rescuers from the RNLI Bude Lifeboat, local paramedics, and the Devon Air Ambulance attended the scene. Allsopp noted that the air ambulance crew used the What3words app to locate her on the remote path. She was given painkillers and flown to Barnstaple Hospital, where she had an operation on her leg. In her post, she praised the hospital staff as "amazing, kind caring" and expressed gratitude for the swift response.
