Keffe D convicted in Tupac Shakur murder case

Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been convicted of murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, a verdict reached last week by a Las Vegas jury. Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the shooting, supplying the firearm and ordering the attack, though he did not fire the fatal shots himself. The prosecution presented recordings and Davis’s 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” as evidence of his claimed involvement in the drive-by shooting that occurred on September 7, 1996. Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips street gang, has maintained his innocence and stated that his legal team has filed an appeal. He claims his accounts of involvement were fabricated for money and notoriety, and that investigators did not have sufficient corroborating evidence when he first spoke about the case in 2008. His defense team argued that his statements were exaggerated and lacked physical support. The prosecution’s theory posited that the shooting was retaliation for Shakur and members of his entourage assaulting Orlando Anderson, Davis’s nephew, hours before the attack.
