Journalist loses credentials after courtroom smile at murder trial

Published 26 August 2026

A journalist covering the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy sparked widespread criticism after appearing to smile and wink at a courtroom camera, leading Vanity Fair to revoke her credentials. The incident occurred on Monday, August 24, during proceedings in Plymouth, Massachusetts, as a Court TV camera panned across the gallery of reporters. Brittany Romano, a New York-based journalist, was captured on the livestream grinning and winking while seated among stone-faced colleagues. The trial concerns Clancy, a 36-year-old mother from Duxbury, who is charged with murdering her three children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023.
