Jonathan Bailey Withdraws From Sunday in the Park With George Revival

Jonathan Bailey has withdrawn from the upcoming West End revival of "Sunday in the Park with George," following his "Wicked" co-star Ariana Grande's departure from the production last month. The actor announced his decision on Tuesday, September 1, citing his support for Grande, who is taking an extended break from public life. Bailey, 38, was set to star as painter Georges Seurat in the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical, with Grande, 33, playing his mistress and model, Dot. The revival was scheduled to open at London's Barbican Centre in the summer of 2027. In a statement shared on his Instagram Story, Bailey wrote, "Ari is one of my dearest friends, and my support for her is unwavering. Director Marianne Elliott is extraordinary and one of my longest collaborators and friends. After much consideration, I have decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George." He described the musical as a "real passion project" and expressed excitement to see what new actors would bring to the roles. "I wish the very best to the entire company. I will be cheering them on as they continue with this production," Bailey concluded.
